Understanding the Stave

The Musical Stave is similar to a graph with a 'x' & 'y' axis. The vertical 'x' is pitch (high & low notes)

& the horizontal 'y' is time, you read it just like a book, from left to right.


The Stave is made up of 5 lines & 4 spaces.


 Each line and space is a co-ordinate on the graph, the following example is a 'C major scale'.



Each of these numbers is a scale degree that we can relate to the piano below. 



Have fun playing this simple song on the piano. 

Don't worry about which octave it is, we cover that next week.
